In the eye of the beholder…

Last week we ventured out of the Handstand offices and down to GFSmith’s Beauty in the Making. We were treated to a short masterclass in paper-making (in gorgeous Colourplan blue), got our hands onto a letterpress and sat down for a lesson in folding envelopes – no, not cheap labour, just a fun bit of craft-working with gorgeous paperstock – (brings back memories of late nights at university; gluing, sticking, scalpel cuts…)

Monotype was there with some amazing pieces of typography and typographical history. One of my favourites of the day was the poster The Monotype Universe: Big Bang 1887.

At the end of the exhibition GFSmith treated us to a super little goody bag. We left with a smile – a big colourful smile.
